We're Logged In...

In the China adoption world, finding out your LID (Log In Date) is a really, really big's the final milestone of the paperchase and another chapter in the wait for Leah's mei-mei. We got the e-mail yesterday that the China Center for Adoption Affairs has accepted our dossier on April 17. Referrals are sent out on a first-come, first-serve basis, so your LID date is very important in knowing when you are next.

Now...we're definitely not in the short DMV line, which is what I now consider our last wait time for Leah of 16 months....we are in the line that goes out the door, wraps around the block, trails down the street, and on to the interstate for about 100 miles.

China has currently just completed referrals for families with a LIDs of October 26, 2005 and have been processing very slowly (only 2 days worth for the month of April)'s going to be such a long wait, I don't even wanna do the math. Fortunately, Leah likes being the center of attention so she can sit back and get cozy for awhile, it's all about her for a couple of years.

The slowdown is mostly caused by a record number of dossiers submitted in 2005 and not enough paper-ready children in China available to keep up. It doesn't mean there are no more children in orphanages, there's plenty (over 1 million), just the paperwork isn't getting completed fast enough to keep up with the families logged in and China's rules only allow around 17,000 children to be adopted internationally each year.

As I am just getting started the official countdown, I'm completely and utterly okay with much's kind of wierding me out cause I'm a "I want it YESTERDAY" kind of girl.

Check back with me in a few years and see how I'm holding up, but because we have already completed our mission of becoming parents, and having sweet, action-packed little Leah will make the second time around a lot more fun. And another plus, I absolutely love that when Shawn, me and Leah go back to China to get her mei-mei, she will be old enough to see and remember her birth country and witness her sister's Gotcha day.

But in the mean time, I'll just be singing...

1,030,200,000 bottles of beer on the wall...1,030,200,000 bottles of beer...take one down pass it around...1,030,200,099 bottles of beer on the wall....

Two "First's" This Week...

This was a big week for us...I had to go to New Orleans for a conference for a couple of days and it was the first time Leah and I have been apart from each other for more than 10 hours, and the first time that Daddy has ever successfully put Leah to bed for night time that didn't take less than 4 hours (remember...she sees daddy as one big toy and he is totally whipped by her). I'm very proud of him, he held strong.

New Orleans French Quarter and Riverfront is in full swing and really very cool, awesome live music every which way you turned and fun, eclectic shops. I saw some Katrina damage and plenty of rebuilding efforts while there, but all in all, it looks like the city still has plenty of soul.

Leah, by the way, faired better than any of us during this brief seperation, but we sure were both happy to see each other again...I missed her sooooo much!

P.S. the band aid on her forehead is not from any injury, she just has been wearing it all day as part of her ensemble.

Guess What Leah Had for Easter Breakfast?

What's All This???

STOP! Is this a Chocolate Bunny?

Open it Daddy, open it!

Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh!!!

This is sooo good!

I ate the WHOLE bunny all by myself!

P.S. I know, I know...her Easter basket looks kind of dinky...Leah already discovered many of her goodies throughout the week...the Easter Bunny needs to do a wee bit better job of hiding the loot next year.

Also in the News Today...

We are DTC!! We just learned that our translated dossier was sent to China yesterday, another hurdle down. Now all we have to do is sit back, relax and wait for our turn, which should happen in a couple of years. That sounds easy enough...right?

Meet my new nephew...Sammy!

My older brother Brad, and his wife Cheri are in the final stages of adopting him from Russia. This is the first of three trips to Moscow to complete the adoption and he should be in the U.S. sometime in May. Sammy is about five months older than Leah. Isn't he a doll?
